Abstract

The worldwide used of the acid solutions in pickling processes, chemical cleanings, and oil well estimulations, just to mention the most common ones, have a high corrosivity, and it is well accepted to add corrosion inhibitors to protect the metallic materials. In this paper it is shown the obtained inhibiting composition of the steel corrosion in hydrochloric acid, combining two of the common ways of obtaining corrosion inhibitors, and this is new. The formulation is mainly based on a by-product and a waste, which are mixing with an tensioactive
additive getting a synergetic effect between them. This was determined comparing the protection coefficients of the formulation with the individual components and through gravimetric tests. Electrochemical tests with the formulation a higher protection coefficient was carried out, an also a steel metallographic study was done before and after the gravimetric tests with and without adding the product. Finally it was determined that the inhibiting composition has a high corrosion inhibiting effectiveness of the steel in hydrochloric acid solutions, and it works like an mixed inhibitor, typical of the organic inhibitors of adsorption in an acid environment, and it does not corrode the metallic materials. This product was registered in the Cuban Organization of Industrial Property.
This research was done partially in the Electrical Research Institute of Mexico due to a scholarship of Department of Foreign Affairs of Mexico.
