Abstract

The trend of declining rainfall due to the greenhouse effect, will force a not too distant future the construction of desalination plants, which obviously can be used not only to conditions of scarcity of conventional resources. Desalination is in some countries the only source of water, with lots of operating desalination plants and fully satisfactory. Because of our geographical location is necessary to study this alternative as a possible source. In this paper an analysis of existing desalination technologies on the market compared in terms of water quality obtained, energy and environment. One of the most favorable technologies is Reverse Osmosis (RO), based on its lower cost, reliability, scalability and environmental impact.
