Determination of Extraction conditions of Phenolic Compounds using Chuquiraga Jussieuijf Gmel solid samples leaching
Abstract
The extraction capacity of phenolic compounds from a solid powder of an Ecuador indigenous vegetal specie called Chuquiraga Jussieui JF Gmel was evaluated experimentally in an aqueous medium using different conditions. Phenolic content was evaluated in order to establish the parameters for preparing an aqueous extract to be used in the development of functional beverages. The experiment was performed using the amounts of 15 and 20 g of dry milled material from the aerial parts of the plant with a particle size of 3 mm in 200 mL of treated water, with stirring rates of 60 and100 rpm and contact times of 30 and 45 minutes. In all experiments the response variable was the content of phenolic compounds determined by Folin-Ciocalteau method expressed in milligrams of gallic acid. It was established that the concentration and contact time variables affect significantly the solid-liquid extraction process and their values were determined.
