Abstract

It is presented a prototype of basin type solar sitll, made from glass fiber with the aim to obtain distilled water to be used in batteries. It is refered to the behaviour of the distiller and it is realized a thermodynamic analysis of the appliance which leads to the development of balances of mass, energy, enthropy with the objetive to evaluate it, calculate the energy values that are lost and gathered in order to have focused big losses and to later improve its design. The producitvity of the appliance reaches values of 350 mL daily, which represents 2,2 L/m2
daily,similar to other prototypes developped in the Solar Energy Research Center in Santiago de Cuba, and in correspondence to what is expected according to the existing environment conditons (level of radiation, environment, wind speed). The advantages of the present prototype are on its bigger resistance to the intense corrosion action that take place during the functioning of the solar distillers. The balance of enthropy made posible determine the generated enthropy in the system
which satisfactorily presents a low value.The exergetic balance isntead made possible calculate the destruction of the exergy. It was determined the energetic and exergetic efficiencies of the
distiller. The energtic efficiency is found between the expected values, however the exergetic efficiency has a low value becuase the water that comes out has low levels of temperature. It is convenient to consider that is not of interest this fluid having high levels of energy because its later utilities are on its possible uses as distilled water and not on its possible value as energetic provider.
