Abstract
The influence of the content of carbon on cuban reinforcing steel is studied, about the conformance to requirements of the seismic design. An experimental program was developed, that include bentand rebend, hardness, welding testing and chemical composition tests to the bars of degrees G-40 and G-60. Of the results it is evidenced that the steel G-60 is manufactured with high content
of carbon that although it increases the resistant capacity but reduces the ductility and make it inadequate for the constructions in seismic areas. Proposals are suggested to guarantee the ductile
behaviour of the steel of national production.
