Abstract

This work present the results of a study on biomass torrefaction realized with two types of densified biomass: straw pellets and wood pellets. The torrefaction experiments was carried out in a
laboratory scale equipment to three temperatures (230° C, 250 °C and 280 °C) and three residence time (1, 2 or 3 hours) for each temperature selected . The effect of the raw material and treatment conditions on the products of torrefaction process is studied. The solid product is characterized with elemental composition, energy content, moisture content, ash content, volatile fraction. In the gaseous product is analysed content of CO2, CO, CH4, C2H2, C2H4, and C2H6 by gas chromatography.
The biomass composition influenced the products distribution The biomass calorific value increased 11,3 % for wood pellets and 18,2 % for straw pellets, at 280 °C and 3h of treatment.
