Abstract

Knowing the rheological characteristics of petroleum is important to make its extraction and management processes more efficient. At the same time, the use of techniques that reduce its viscosity facilitates the accomplishment of this goal. The objectives of the present investigation were focused on evaluating the influence of formulation, composition and agitation on the properties of the W/O emulsions and their stability. After characterizing the phenomenology of this type of system, the effect of the magnetic treatment on these, particularly on viscosity, was studied, taking into account its influence on the same. Variations of the properties of the same were verified under the different conditions established and by the effect of the magnetic treatment, which promises to be a suitable technology for these purposes.
