Natural and Accelerated Corrosion Test in Painting Systems Applied Over Steel

Abstract
The expansion of the industries, as well as the constant growth of the cities and the continuous advance of the civilization, have contributed to a higher contamination of the atmosphere, provoking undesirable effects, among others, the quick deterioration of materials. This phenomenon has carried out to the necessity of knowing more about the capacity of resistance of the protection systems applied for certain benefit conditions and services. The protection techniques applied for fighting against corrosion of metals, have reached an important development. Nowadays there is a wide range of protective coatings of different types, where those of organic nature stand out, able to adapt and to resist the severity ofdifferent climatic conditions. With the purpose of evaluating the behavior of some painting systems applied on steel, a program of tests of corrosion is defined in this paper, developed in natural atmosphere, as other assays of quick type, with specific and controlled laboratory conditions. The purpose of these carried out tests is evaluate the effectiveness of painting systems in front of certain conditions, as well as to give to know the obtained results after one year of exposition on the marine-coastal station of natural tests of Cojímar, in the north coast of Havana. The good behavior of polyurethane system is outstanding and the different behavior of other studied systems is explained. It is also discussed the results obtained in relatively long periods of time to discuss, in connection with those that are obtained in short periods.
