Abstract

The objective of the work has been to evaluate technical, economical and environmentally, the stock preparation investment project at the Pulpa Cuba Paper Mill. To reach this objective a comprehensive methodology of technology assessment is applied, in which, methods are used for equipment and ancillary systems design control. By economic evaluation, benefits in energy and water consumptions; maintenance and operating labor are estimated. A study of the current stock preparation process of recycled paper and the technology assessment of a new system, acquired to Shandong Huachen International Group Co, Ltd., considered energy, water, waste and process–related improvements. The consumptions of water and energy of both technologies are examined. A verification of pulp storage capacities, fluids speeds and pressure drops in the piping system are also examined. The deficiencies in the current technology and in the new project are identified. Initials estimates indicate that the implementation of the recommendations will save nearly 206 605, 00 CUC/ annually with a project cost of 634 030, 00 CUC. An average payback period of about 3 year is expected.
