Optimization of the intensified and diversified supply chain in the Sorbitol industry, Florida municipality, Camagüey
Abstract
The integrated supply chain was optimized for new production scenarios in the
Sorbitol industry in the municipality of Florida, province of Camagüey. The
consumption rates and prices of raw materials and products were taken into
account, together with the availability of cane. In this sense, the supply chain
was developed, based on the integration of productions between the economic
sectors involved. This intersectoral union, based on the circular economy
model, supported by the optimal use of raw materials and technologies, allowed
us to achieve new production chains. The optimization was carried out first, to
know the maximum contributions that can be generated in the supply chain to
local development, according to the availability of cane for the 16/17, 21/22 and
average harvests. Under these ideal conditions, no sales of
fructooligosaccharide (FOS) are obtained because all the sugar is used to
produce glucose at a higher sales price. Finally, these scenarios are combined,
establishing the glucose capacities, which include the annual production of the
current plant, the sum of this with another of equal capacity and the
chromatographic enzymatic route. It was determined that the maximum
contributions to local development correspond to the 16/17 harvest of greater
production, which demonstrated the need to plant sugarcane in the territory,
with the purpose of intensifying and diversifying productions, to meet demands
and maximize contributions to local development
