Application of Magnetite (Fe3O4)-based Nanomaterials in Wastewater Treatment
Abstract
Untreated wastewater in channeled to natural water bodies, so it is a
determining factor in the pollution of water resources. Magnetite nanoparticles
are successfully applied in the removal and immobilization of contaminants in
water, due to their structural, morphological, optical, thermal, and magnetic
properties. Taking into account the sources of magnetic in the solid waste of the
nickel industries in Cuba by the Caron technology, this research was carried out
with a view to analysing the methods of synthesis and applications of
magnetite-based nanomaterials for wastewater treatment. It was determined
that there is a remarkable application in the adsorption on metals (As, Cu, Fe,
Ni, Zn, Mn, Pb, Cd) and organic matter (dyes, antibiotics) of wastewater, in
photocatalysis and combined with natural coagulants, as a result a significant
improvement in the quality of industrial effluents is achieved
