Abstract
The operation of a bioreactor requires an appropriate inoculum. So in this work were evaluate three inocula for the biotreatment of wastewater from the meat processing industry (COMCAR) "Álvaro Barba Machado»: the sludge stabilization pond (L), cow manure, whichis a pattern (E) and a mixture thereof 1:1 (v: v) (EL). This methanogenic activity was determined in Visser modified culture medium, adding glucose or acetate as substrates, and then the biodegradability assay was performed in the presence of residual. The results show the increased productionof methane in the presence of acetate, suggesting a prevalence of methanogenic anaerobic populations; necessaryto develop an anaerobic treatment. The test with glucose andacetate showed differences in the activities of L inoculum (0,024 vs 0,015 gDQO CH4/g VSS * d, respectively), demonstrating the CH4 presence of other trophic groups (acidogenic and acetogenic bacteria) to obtain methane. The inocula behavior in the biodegradability assay is similar, indicating the not presence of inhibitory compounds. The inoculum L was the best adapted to the characteristics of the effluent, with a yield of methane (Y CH4/DQO) of 270,8 mL/gDQO, and also presented the best results in the degradation of organic matter (as COD, 77 % ), protein (78 %), volatile fatty acids (VFA, 80 %). This sludge is an inoculation source for the anaerobic reactors for treating this type of wastewater.
