Abstract
Pollution of surface water is one of the identified environmental problems in Cuba, as reflected in the National Environmental Strategy for 2007-2010. The industry has characteristics that make them the focus of attention of the community with regard to its environmental performance, specifically the presence of high output currents without immediate use (waste). The aim of this work is to establish the correlation between environmental performance of industry and the environmental impact of theireffluents. To this end we used a database compiled over seven years working in the corporate sector Camaguey, which has information on monitoring and characterization of wastewater, environmental performance indicators and quality of surface water. We used the methods of descriptive and inferential
statistics, which included the multivariate analysis. The results indicate that the liquid waste management is made more effective in industries that have the following characteristics: they have an environmental management system in place, are in the business improvement process, discharge their liquid waste into surface waters of category one According to the NC 27:1999. Showed the rate of noncompliance with a mean value shows significant differences depending on the nature of the contamination: organic or inorganic. We conclude that there is a strong correlation between environmental performance of industry and the environmental impact of their effluents.
