Abstract
To produce Jatropha curcas L oil-based lubricants with good oxidative stability, refined Jatropha curcas L oil was chemically modified. The epoxidation is carried out using peracid formed in situ, by reacting a carboxylic acid with concentrated hydrogen peroxide. The physicochemical properties of the epoxidized Jatropha curcas L oil, such as: iodine value, density, dynamic viscosity and oxidative stability (Rancimat test) were determined. Results indicate that the epoxidized Jatropha curcas L oil has lower iodine value, higher density and dynamic viscosity and even better oxidative stability than refined Jatropha curcas L. oil.
