Abstract

The present work is part of one of the investigation lines that realizes the Chemical Engineering Faculty of Orient University in Santiago de Cuba, in the searching of solutions that allow an
economic form to decrease the corrosion of the equipments and metallic materials. The main purpose is the analysis of the variables that influence in the corrosion rate and in the dezincification of common yellow brasses and the efficiencies of ecological inhibitors obtained from the vinaza of alcoholic distilleries. The solid used as inhibitor in this work is obtained from the electrocoagulation of the vinaza of the Combined Distillery-Brewer “Hatuey” in Santiago of Cuba province.
The corrosion experiments were realized in blank, without the presence of the inhibitor, and with inhibitors and mixes of these using the gravimetrical method. The inhibitors used in the corrosion of common brass in sea water at high temperatures were the products obtained by the electrocoagulation of the vinaza, residual product obtained of the alcoholic distillation: the slime and the foam. The analysis of the influence of the variables in the corrosion rate and in the dezincification was developed by means of a multilevel factorial experiment design obtained in the professional program STATGRAPHICS 5.1, considering as independent variables: the temperature and the
concentration of the inhibitor being the purpose to obtain the optimum combinations of these variables that allow the maximum efficiency of corrosion inhibition in the dezincification.
The results obtained were satisfactory, since the use of the substances inhibitors proved that the values of corrosion rate had a significant decrease for the temperature range between 70 – 90 ºC, independently that decreases the apparition of the dezincification of the brasses as the concentration of the inhibitor rises until achieving an stable corrosion rate.
